A well-informed community
advocates for financial accountability.
Have you ever noticed when your property tax rate decreases you still end up with a higher tax bill? Do you ever wonder why? The answer is simple; the town sends out an assessor who formulates the new value of your home or property. This continually increases the assessed value of your home. When your home value goes up so does your property tax.

These continual property tax increases are compounded by the town imposing debt excluded tax increases.
Establishing Good Town Policies
Financial policies are designed for fiscal management and capital planning.
The town of Stoughton Select board has not voted on any comprehensive expert recommended policies to manage town finances.
Encouraging Town Leadership to adopt expert recommended finance policies is meant to protect the taxpayer and to be used as a guideline year after year.
"2020 guideline" reflects finance committee guiding principals for one budget year. An "expert policy" sample is what has been recommended to be used by various municipal advisors. The sample expert policy is what a complete finance road map looks like.
